We currently have an opportunity in our Portering Services Department for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to work within the Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The post holder will respond to requests for the movement of patients and goods in an appropriate and timely manner to provide a comprehensive and efficient service. This will involve the lifting, transferring, pushing and pulling of substantial weight with the assistance of mechanical aids where a risk assessment has identified the need to use them. Mechanical aids may include sack and pallet trucks, driven and handâheld tugs / mechanical movers, and stairwell climbers.
The Health Board offers excellent working conditions, including a generous entitlement of paid holiday, enhanced pay for weekend working and an opportunity to join the Superannuation Pension Scheme. The position is a permanent contract of employment for a fullâtime post (37.5 hours a week). Hours are on a rota to include nights, weekends and bank holidays. Rates of pay are ÂŁ13.45 per hour, with enhanced rates for work undertaken on a Saturday (ÂŁ16.23 per hour) and Sunday (ÂŁ20.61 per hour).
Main duties of the job:
- Applications are invited for the post of a 24âhour Shift Porter working five days per week on a rota to include weekends and bank holidays at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
- Portering Services provides essential support to all areas of the hospital.
- The Porter will respond to various challenges in the working environment, with workload potentially increased by external influences such as the environment, weather, patient capacity, etc.
- The Porter will work as part of a team, contributing to the smooth running of the service by providing an efficient and effective response to requests for patient movement, assistance in emergency situations, collection and delivery of samples and medicines, and other tasks such as collection and delivery of meal trolleys, linen, goods and mail.
- While many tasks are routine, the daily functioning of the service may be unpredictable; therefore a flexible approach is essential.
- The post holder will be expected to use own initiative.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
