An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a Band 6 senior staff nurse to work within the 12 bedded Critical Care Unit in Wrexham Maelor Hospital. Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board operates three Hospital sites with a total of 33 Critical Care beds, delivering care for all unscheduled care and a broad range of surgical specialities. The Critical Care Unit aims to deliver safe, high quality care and ensures a positive patient experience.
As part of our team, you will represent the Trust in delivering nursing care in line with BCUHB Values and treat all staff/colleagues, patients, families, and visitors with respect and dignity.
Main duties of the job
- The Senior Staff Nurse in Critical Care will be responsible for ensuring a high level of patient care at all times throughout the unit.
- They will be actively involved in, as well as supervising, patient care, managing unplanned admissions and ensuring accurate staffing levels.
- They will need to be confident in leading the unit in the absence of senior management and be involved in the supervision and development of junior team members.
- The successful candidate will be part of a real team, able to communicate clearly with those around them and have a calm approach to problem solving.
- They will be committed to creating an environment of continuous improvement and learning to ensure the highest possible standards of care are maintained at all times.
- Finally, they will demonstrate a passion for a patient-centred approach by keeping the department organised and professional at all times.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

- Qualifications
- NMC Registered Nurse
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing
- Advanced Life Support or willingness to undertake Post Registration Course relevant to critical care area
- Mandatory training to be up to date
- Significant experience in band 5 in critical care
- Experience of undertaking research/audit work and standard settings
- Evidence of good organisational skills
- Advanced clinical skills/knowledge relevant to area of expertise
- Evidence of people management and leadership skills alongside the ability to care with warmth and understanding
- Evidence of critical analysis skills
- Effective decision maker and problem solver
- Ability to negotiate and communicate with patients, relatives and all members of the Multidisciplinary Team
