An exciting leadership opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Theatre Matron. We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Theatre Matron to provide visible, professional leadership across our operating theatres. This is a pivotal role focused on delivering exceptional patient care, maintaining high clinical standards, and supporting the development of a well‑led, safe, and effective theatre service. The post holder will work closely with the Theatre Manager, Head of Nursing, Clinical Director and Directorate General Manager to ensure strategic objectives of the directorate and Health Board are met. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
- Embed the Nursing Officer five key priorities for Wales
- Provide strong, visible leadership and act as a senior clinical role model within theatres
- Maintain and continuously improve standards of patient care, safety, and experience
- Support governance, quality assurance, audit, and risk management processes
- Lead, support, and develop theatre teams, promoting positive culture and well‑being
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, senior nurses, ODPs, and operational teams
- Contribute to service development, workforce planning, and performance management
- Address concerns promptly, including patient feedback, incidents, and complaints

About You
- You will be a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner
- Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience), with relevant leadership or management qualifications (or willingness to work towards)
- Highly experienced within perioperative services, with strong clinical credibility
- A confident leader with excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Passionate about quality improvement and patient‑centred care

Qualifications & Training
- Registered nurse or Registered ODP
- Masters Degree or equivalent experience in Theatre or health related subject or working towards with completion in three years
- Significant relevant experience in a managerial post
- Teaching/assessing qualification or experience
- Significant continuous professional and management development
- Leadership training or equivalent experience. Demonstrates enthusiasm towards teaching and sharing knowledge.
- Up to date in all current issues related to professional theatre practice and health service management. Assertive and confident in approach
