An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Substance Misuse Community Nurse post within Gwynedd Substance Misuse Service. The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of comprehensive assessment and treatment interventions to individuals who misuse substances, including risk assessment, substance use, social care and psychological effects. To work as an autonomous practitioner in community settings including service users' homes. The post holder will manage a case load and support individuals through their treatment within the service. They will also be responsible for supervising junior members of staff and supporting their development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have knowledge and experience of substance misuse interventions and treatment and will be required to use effective communication skills to engage, motivate and maintain service users in contact with services and to be responsible for the development and continuous evaluation of treatment programmes as appropriate. Induction will be tailored to individual needs, and discussed at interview. The post holder will be expected to work with both alcohol and drug misuse service users.

Qualifications and / or Knowledge

  • NMC Registration
  • Post graduate level of study (diploma / degree) in an appropriate area, or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Awareness of professional boundaries
  • Substance misuse related academic qualification

Experience

  • Experience of working as a band 5 and meeting enhanced competencies / specialist clinical knowledge
  • Ability to recognise and respond to behaviours that are challenging
  • Experience of working in a community setting
  • Professional knowledge of substance misuse

Apptitude and Abilities

  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Data collection skills
  • Demonstrate ability to support and supervise staff
