Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board invites applications from motivated and forward‑thinking Health Visitors to join the Flying Start programme as a Specialist Health Visitor for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health. This post offers a significant opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of high‑quality perinatal and infant mental health services within a dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary environment.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Health Visitor for Perinatal and Infant Mental Health will lead the development and delivery of perinatal and infant mental health initiatives across the Flying Start service. The role involves providing therapeutic and educational interventions to families, with a strong focus on early intervention, prevention, and the promotion of healthy parent–infant relationships.

The post holder will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement screening pathways, policies, and procedures that support women, men, and families from pregnancy up to two years postnatally. They will contribute to service improvement by strengthening partnerships, enhancing early support provision, and ensuring families receive timely, specialist care.

A key aspect of the role is offering expert training, consultation, and guidance to Health Visiting teams, supporting them to deliver high‑quality, personalised care. The post holder will also raise awareness of the impact of perinatal mental health difficulties and promote effective care planning across primary care, maternity, mental health, and children’s services.

Qualifications And/or Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Registered Nurse/Midwife/RCN
• Specialist Community Public Health Degree Health Visiting
• Current NMC Registration
• Documented evidence of continued professional development
• Masters Level education/knowledge in Parent/Infant Mental Health or demonstrable equivalent level of working

Desirable criteria

• Mentoring/teaching/coaching/supervision qualification
• NBAS/NBO Trained
• V100 Nurse prescribing
• IHV Perinatal Mental Health Training/Solihull Approach Training

Experience

Essential criteria

• Health Visiting experience in practice
• Experience of delivering training to a range of other professionals
• Specialist knowledge and experience in maternal/paternal and infant mental health, developed through training and practice
• Clear understanding of Perinatal mental Health and Safeguarding guidance, policies and procedures.
• Evidence of working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary and interagency workin
• Experience of managing own workload and that of others
• Experience of undertaking comprehensive health assessments, planning and implementing evidence based programmes of care

Desirable criteria

• Management/Leadership/Supervision experience
• Experience of leadership in service change or redesign
• Implementation of Audit/research recommendation
