Consultant Paediatrician with an interest in allergy and asthma. Applications are invited to apply for the post of Consultant Paediatrician in Acute Paediatrics. The successful candidate will join a team of 13 Acute Consultant Paediatricians and 7 Consultant Neonatologists. The post is a 9‑session post with a 1:9 on‑call commitment for general paediatrics. The contract includes a 1:9 Consultant of the Week system and 1:9 Paediatric Assessment Unit provision, making a total of a pro‑rota 10‑session contract. The 9‑session contract is split into 6.5 direct clinical care sessions and 2.5 supporting professional activity sessions in line with the Welsh Consultant Contract.
Main duties of the job:
- The successful candidate will have responsibility for acute general paediatric services.
- The successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in the clinical governance programme of the department, providing support to undergraduate and postgraduate trainees as necessary.
- The Consultant Paediatrician will ensure maintenance of relevant skills through continuing professional development with an annual appraisal.
- The Consultant Paediatrician will provide clinical supervision for other paediatricians and clinical and educational supervision for specialist paediatric trainees.
- The Consultant Paediatrician will participate in the relevant children’s management meetings for the service.

Person specification:
Qualifications:- MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
- Full GMC registration
- On the GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at the time of scheduled interview.
- Portfolio Pathway applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application
- Valid BLS Training
- Higher degree, e.g., MSc, MD, PhD in Paediatrics
- Research degree
- ‘Training the Trainers’ certification
- Ability to demonstrate having achieved the competencies equivalent to the Higher Specialist Paediatric Training
- Valid level 3 Safeguarding Training
- Valid APLS Training
- Valid NLS Training
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit/QI project, understanding the role of these in improving medical practice
- Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence, so as to improve clinical outcomes
- Experience working in the NHS
- Wider experience, research, and training, in providing subspeciality service (if applicable)
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, their relatives, colleagues, managers, other agencies and staff at all levels
- Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions
- Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively
- Meets the requirements of the GMC’s ‘Good Medical Practice’
- Willingness to teach all grades of professional multidisciplinary staff
