Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is looking for an enthusiastic and efficient Medical Secretary to join the Cancer Division secretarial team, providing support to a Consultant Oncologist, Associate Specialist and specialist nursing team. The successful applicant will hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification, an RSA/OCR Level 3 in Typing and/or Word Processing, and demonstrate IT skills through an ECDL qualification or equivalent experience.

Applicants must have knowledge of working within an administrative setting, good secretarial, organisational and customer service skills, and the ability to handle enquiries and requests from patients, carers and colleagues confidently and sensitively. They must communicate professionally with all levels of staff and be able to work to deadlines, adapting to changing service demands. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Provide an accurate, confidential and supportive administration service for patients, clinical teams, carers and internal and external agencies (e.g., Local Authority, Third Sector, CAIS).
  • Support the safe and efficient patient pathway and provide information and appropriate support to families and carers.
  • Support the delivery of a comprehensive high quality medical secretarial administrative service.

Scope of the Role

  • Support the coordination of the administration arrangements to provide a high quality supportive secretarial service to the consultant, medical and nursing team.
  • Work independently and be accountable for organising/prioritising own workload to ensure deadlines are achieved, supporting the facilitation of patients along a defined pathway.
