Fixed term/secondment until 30/09/2026. This post is open only to staff currently employed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Applicants must obtain permission from their current line manager prior to applying. The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the corporate and clinical governance framework and associated reporting infrastructure across the Division, including liaison with the Health Care Standards Commission, Patient Safety Agency and BCU Corporate Governance leads. In conjunction with the Director, the role will liaise with external and internal stakeholders to deliver organisational corporate and clinical governance standards and objectives. Responsibilities also include management of clinical governance and corporate governance functions, support for major quality, safety and risk initiatives, performance monitoring, interpretation of national guidelines and provision of professional advice and leadership. The role may deputise for the Director on governance issues as required.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Clinical Governance Responsibilities
  • Maintain a high profile for patient involvement in all aspects of clinical governance.
  • Work in partnership with key stakeholders internally and externally to support continuous improvement in the quality of the patient experience.
  • Report to the Clinical Governance Committee to produce the annual Clinical Governance Report and Development Plan.
  • Undertake clinical governance reviews and agree action plans for rectification or development of activities.
  • Communicate with external agencies and staff to ensure compliance with performance targets and strategic objectives, providing highly complex and sensitive information and presentations to staff groups.
  • Manage and deliver the clinical audit and effectiveness programme, providing support and expert advice to managers and clinicians.
  • Chair and lead appropriate subgroups of the Clinical Governance Committee.
  • Maintain awareness of national and international trends and evidence and link it to local clinical governance development.
  • Manage staff and budgets, ensuring activity is managed in line with service agreements.

  • Education to degree level or professional equivalent.
  • Ability to respond effectively to unpredictable working patterns and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent understanding of Government policy and strategy as it relates to the NHS and its impact on service delivery.
