We are pleased to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Midwife to join our team on Labour Ward as a Shift Coordinator, based at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. This autonomous practitioner will take responsibility for the coordination of care within the Labour Ward.
You will be responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of care to both high and low risk women in both the antenatal and intrapartum and occasionally the postnatal period. You will provide clinical leadership at ward level, thus ensuring that the highest standards of clinical care are continuously achieved and monitored.
Main duties of the job:
- To ensure the day to day supervision, allocation and coordination of staff with appropriate recognition of skill mix and ability.
- To foster effective communication systems between staff of all disciplines in order that a positive working environment is achieved.
- To recognise, communicate and reward the achievements of the team and the individuals of the team.
- To identify and report any poor performance issues.
- To report all incidents and accidents via the Trust and Maternity Unit risk management systems.
- Participate in the unit bleep holder rota assuming responsibility on a shift by shift basis for the maternity and gynaecology services.
- Ensure the ward environment is safe, clean and tidy, and that the Health & Safety Policy is adhered to at all times.
- To take overall responsibility for ensuring appropriate skill mix in the ward environment including completion of the duty rota for Labour Ward staff.
- To take responsibility for the professional well-being of staff allocated to work on Labour Ward by being available and willing to discuss openly any problems/dilemmas.
- To diffuse challenging behaviour and act as a role model to ensure that all potentially difficult situations are managed in a sensitive manner.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
