We are seeking experienced laboratory support workers to progress to Associate Practitioner roles within the Blood Sciences service at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Only staff currently employed by BCUHB may apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the service delivery and develop the Associate Practitioner role within Quality Management and Transfusion.
  • Work with Biomedical Scientists and other team members to provide accurate and rapid diagnosis of blood and other body fluid samples.
  • Carry out routine laboratory tasks under minimal supervision.
  • Perform core analytical work of the department using standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in training and development of Associate Practitioners, Medical Laboratory Assistants, and other trainees.
  • Provide support in quality management functions (document management, audit, risk assessment) and transfusion functions (stock management, cold chain, training, traceability).
  • If currently covering out‑of‑hours, continue this for up to six months.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Biomedical/Laboratory Sciences NVQ level 3 or 4, or Vocational Qualification level 3 or 4.
  • HNC or IBMS certificate of achievement level 2.
  • Scientific background and previous laboratory experience.
  • LIMS experience.

Desirable Qualifications & Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to speak Welsh.
  • ECDL or equivalent.
  • Pipetting and sample preparation.
  • Computer literacy, including good keyboard skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to prioritise workflow.
  • Ability to maintain concentration.
