Practitioner Psychologist in Wrexham

Overview

We have an exciting maternity cover opportunity for an HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist to join our Living Well Service. This post is fixed term / secondment for 6 months due to maternity cover. This role involves working as part of a skilled interdisciplinary team co-led by a Consultant Therapist and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. The MDT includes Clinical Psychology, Assistant Psychologists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, GP and admin staff. The service supports people presenting with Long Covid, other post-viral and fatiguing conditions, persistent physical symptoms, breathing pattern disorder and those who frequently access services. The Living Well Service offers opportunities to contribute to service development and to work with vulnerable groups who might otherwise fall through gaps in services. We are an award-winning, friendly and supportive team; we are research-active with a focus on co-production with partners with lived experience.

Main duties of the job

• Undertake a range of assessments and treatment/support for patients with complex conditions including Long Covid, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME, Persistent Physical Symptoms, Breathing Pattern Disorder, Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) and high service use.
• Promote psychological thinking and formulation within a multidisciplinary team; provide direct and indirect consultation to patients and their families and carers.
• Supervision of others, delivery of training, leadership and service development as part of the role.
• Contribute to co-development of the service and to research activities related to the service.
• The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are welcome to apply.

We are currently looking for a Band 8a candidate with appropriate experience or a qualified Practitioner Psychologist on a Band 7 basis to cover a period of maternity leave. This is a 3 day a week secondment opportunity. We operate pan North Wales and are open to agreeing a base with the successful candidate; some remote working may be available once agreed. Your role would include direct clinical work, consultation with multi-disciplinary colleagues, training and service development, with opportunities for research and audit. Qualifications

Essential criteria

• Good Honours degree in Psychology. Eligibility for Chartered status with the BPS
• Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS with HCPC registration following qualification. Or equivalent which gives Practitioner Psychologist Status with the HCPC.
• HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.

Desirable criteria

• Training / qualifications in specific therapeutic models applicable to Health Clinical Psychology (e.g., Mindfulness, ACT)
• Advanced training in research design and methodology
• Clinical supervision training for Doctoral trainee Clinical Psychologists
• Record of publications in peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books.

Knowledge

Essential Criteria

• Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within clinical/health psychology.
• Doctoral level knowledge of clinical/health psychology theory and practice, including neuropsychological and psychometric assessment and interpretation, psychological therapies and their application.
• Willingness to develop knowledge of legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management in relation to Physical Health Psychology Services.
• Participation with CPD as recommended by BPS & HCPC.
• B8a - Has attended taught post-graduate course or pursued supervised self-directed study in Pain Management or related field.
• Knowledge of legislation and Welsh Government policy, NICE and other guidelines relevant to professional practice in Health Psychology provision in Wales.

• Record of publications in peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books.

Experience

Essential criteria

• Willingness to develop additional specialist skills through supervised training or experience in Physical Health Psychology, including case presentations, group supervision and short courses post-qualification.
• Willingness to undertake training in supervisory skills
• B8a - Additional appropriate experience as a qualified Clinical/Practitioner Psychologist, including significant post-qualification experience with physical health difficulties and/or chronic pain.

Desirable criteria

• Knowledge and experience of relevant therapeutic approaches for physical health conditions
• Experience of teaching and liaising with other professional groups
• B8a - Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
• B8a - Significant post-qualification experience in Health Clinical Psychology (e.g. persistent physical symptoms, pain management)
