Please note that we will only accept applications from staff currently employed by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Mental Health Act Department as part of Corporate Governance who are seeking to appoint a Mental Health Act (MHA) Administrator.
The postholder will supervise and provide provision of advice on legislation and all administrative issues relating to the Mental Health Act 1983. On behalf of the Hospital Managers the postholder will ensure that statutory documentation is compliant with the Mental Health Act 1983 and current legislation. The postholder on behalf of the Hospital Managers and in accordance with the Code of Practice will ensure that detained patients are made fully aware of their rights under legislation. The postholder will ensure that issues and/or recommendations arising from the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales inspections are effectively actioned to the highest standard. The postholder will be expected to cover within the geographical area of North Wales.
Main duties of the job
The role of the MHA Administrator is an important one providing a framework for compliance with the Mental Health Act by identifying and challenging any errors. MHA Administrators have a vital role in safeguarding the legal requirements of the Mental Health Act.
The successful candidate will need exceptional administrative skills, interpersonal skills and a keen eye for detail. The work is interesting and varied and requires a candidate that is confident in dealing with professionals at all levels both internal and external to the organisation.
By the nature of the duties, the post holder will be required to maintain strict confidentiality and be expected to deal with issues of a sensitive nature with both internal and external stakeholders with courtesy, empathy and discretion at all times.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
- Degree level or commitment to work towards
- MHA certification or equivalent experience
- Understanding of Mental Health law
- Ability to travel
- Experience of meeting deadlines and working in a pressured environment
Desirable criteria
- Mental Health Law training or equivalent continued professional training
- Proficiency in Welsh (desirable)
