We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Consultant Clinical Psychologist to join our service in North West Wales (0.4 WTE). This is a senior role with responsibility for the operational leadership of psychological provision within the service, ensuring high standards of clinical governance, quality, and the effective day-to-day running of psychological care. The postholder will play a key role within the multidisciplinary team (MDT), contributing psychological expertise to inform assessment, formulation, and treatment planning, while maintaining a clinical caseload involving both individual therapeutic work and the delivery of structured pain management programmes.
Main duties of the job
In addition to clinical and operational responsibilities, the successful candidate will provide professional leadership through the line management and clinical supervision of junior clinical psychologists and trainees, supporting their development and ensuring safe, effective practice. This is an excellent opportunity to shape service delivery, embed evidence-based psychological approaches, and contribute to the ongoing development of psychologically informed care within a collaborative and forward-thinking team.
Qualifications and/or Knowledge
- Good Honours degree in Psychology.
- Eligibility for BPS Chartered status.
- Doctoral level advanced specialist knowledge of clinical psychology theory and practice, psychological therapies and their application, neuropsychological and psychometric assessment and interpretation, research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within clinical psychology.
- Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
- Registration with HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist.
- Advanced training in research design and methodology.
- Record of publications in peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books.
Experience
- Appropriate experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist, including substantial supervised post-qualification expertise and experience within the Health Clinical Psychology.
- Additional specialist supervised training, research or study, specialist courses and clinical supervision in the Health Clinical Psychology.
Aptitude and Abilities
- Ability to use highest level of interpersonal and communication skills, requiring empathy and reassurance, to convey and receive highly complex/sensitive information effectively in a highly emotive atmosphere, and ability to overcome psychological resistance to potentially threatening information, whilst maintaining high degree of professionalism at all times.
- Ability to make clinical and service-related judgements involving highly complex facts requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of several options.
- Ability to speak Welsh.
