This post is fixed term / secondment until March 2027 due to funding. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
As a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist, you will play a pivotal role in the Early Supported Discharge (ESD) and Specialist Stroke Inpatient Rehabilitation (SSIR) teams. Your focus will be on providing seamless, high-quality care for patients who have had a stroke during the critical transition from inpatient rehab back into the community. Working within a supportive Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), you will act as a clinical specialist, balancing expert patient care with the mentorship of junior staff.
The successful candidate will be based at Llandudno Hospital on the Specialist Stroke Inpatient Rehabilitation ward and at The Royal Alexandra Hospital with the Early Supported Discharge Team. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job- Clinical Specialism: Manage a specialist caseload focusing on patients with complex dysphagia and communication needs.
- Transition Management: Coordinate and deliver high quality care to ensure smooth transitions for patients moving from hospital to community settings.
- Supervision & Leadership: Lead and shape the clinical skills of Band 5 therapists and students through direct supervision and mentoring.
- MDT Collaboration: Work integrally within the Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide holistic rehabilitation and support.
- Service Quality: Maintain high standards of clinical practice while contributing to the continuous improvement of stroke recovery pathways.
Day to day tasks may include: triage of referrals, caseload allocation and prioritisation, assessment, therapy, family meetings and delivering training. CPD and clinical supervision are encouraged and supported within BCUHB Speech and Language Therapy Services.
