The East Primary Care Team is looking for experienced, organised and enthusiastic Receptionists to work in our Health Board managed GP Practice (Pen Y Maes Medical Centre, Wrexham). Previous experience of working within a GP Practice would be beneficial and knowledge of the EMIS clinical system is desirable, however training can be given. The demands of a GP practice can change on a daily basis and therefore this role will be challenging. Multiple posts available. There is an expectation that the successful applicant will learn Welsh following appointment to the post.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be booking appointments and dealing with patient queries; therefore excellent communication skills and a confident telephone manner is required.
  • Proficient IT skills (including experience of Microsoft Office) are also required as the post holder will undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth day‑to‑day running of the practice, including data inputting.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a healthcare setting or a customer service environment, but full training can be given to the right candidate.
  • The post holder will also be expected to work at other Health Board managed GP practices in the East area on an ad‑hoc basis to meet service needs and cover staff absences.

Qualifications

  • Essential criteria: A good standard of general education NVQ Level 2 in administration or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Desirable criteria: ECDL Word processing qualification (e.g. RSA 2, or equivalent experience)

  • Essential Criteria: Ability to work as part of an integrated multi‑skilled team member without direct supervision. Flexible approach to the needs of the service including working at other sites when required.

Knowledge

  • Essential Criteria: An understanding of confidentiality involved with post. Knowledge of a range of administrative processes.
  • Desirable criteria: Knowledge of medical terminology.

Skills

  • Essential criteria: Ability to input information onto a computer system with speed and accuracy. Ability to deal with a number of different tasks simultaneously. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of staff both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with issues on the spot.
  • Desirable criteria: Shorthand skills.

Experience

  • Essential criteria: Experience of using Microsoft Office packages. Experience of working in a busy reception or office environment. Experience of dealing with the public on the phone and face‑to‑face. Ability to work in a fast paced, ever‑changing environment.
  • Desirable criteria: Experience of using an IT system (e.g. EMIS, Oracle, WPAS). Experience of working in a GP surgery or an NHS office environment.
