The Specialist Behavioural Support Service (SBSS) is part of the Community Learning Disability Service and works with children and adults with learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge across BCUHB and the six local authority areas of North Wales. The SBSS uses the model of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to conduct behavioural assessments to determine the underlying functions of behaviours that challenge and develop effective intervention plans. SBSS works closely with the Community Learning Disability Teams to identify people who use the service who may be vulnerable to destabilisation as a consequence of behaviours that challenge which may lead to out of area placements.

Assistant Behavioural Practitioners will assist the Band 7 Senior Specialist Behavioural Nurse (SSBN) / Band 6 Specialist Behavioural Nurse (SBN) / Band 5 Behavioural Nurse (BN) in gathering information for assessment, and they will work with staff and carers in implementing active support and other agreed behavioural interventions under the direction of the SBSS Nurses.
