Due to vacancies in the service, applications are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in Community Child Health within the Central area of Betsi Cadwaladr LHB, to assist in providing comprehensive and specialist child health services across this area of North Wales. The successful candidate will join a team of Community Paediatricians across Conwy and Denbighshire.

The contract is a standard 10 session PA contract with 8 clinical and 2 SPA sessions. There is flexibility to develop specific areas of interest. Study leave, and attendance at the regular departmental meetings is built into the timetable. The job plan will be reviewed annually through the job planning process.

Main duties of the job:

The successful applicant will work with other Paediatricians in the Community Paediatric team along with the wider team within community children’s services. The post is mainly clinical but with a teaching component and opportunity to contribute to service development. The specific duties of the successful candidate will be subject to discussion and will depend on expertise.

Person specification:

Qualifications:

  • Essential criteria: Fully Registered Medical Practitioner with the GMC.
  • Desirable criteria: A post graduate qualification e.g. MRCPCH by examination, MSc, DCH, DCCH, MBA or other relevant diplomas D.C.C.H or DCH.

Experience:

  • Essential criteria: The post holder must be a qualified medical practitioner having worked a minimum of 4 years full time postgraduate training, 2 years of which must be in the relevant specialty, or have the relevant experiences and competencies.
  • Desirable criteria: Community experience in General Practice or Paediatrics – experience in assessing child development, child protection, experience in other relevant areas.

Ability/knowledge:

  • Essential Criteria: Evidence of ability to communicate well at all levels using verbal and non-verbal skills.
  • Working use of English Language.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate effectively e.g. report writing.
  • Ability to assess a normal child and to recognise and appropriately manage abnormality.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of how working in community settings differs from hospital.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions without immediate supervision, but with an awareness of one’s individual limitations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work with other health professionals within a MDT.
  • Demonstrate an ability to organise work effectively.
  • Take considered decisions whilst under pressure, document clearly and concise work.

Desirable criteria: Previous multi-agency work. Written and oral communication skills in Welsh.
