Band 6 Neuro-Physiotherapist INTERNAL in Colwyn Bay

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work as a Band 6 Physiotherapist in the North Wales Brain Injury Service. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your neuro skills within the department and work alongside Clinical Specialist and Advanced Practice neuro specialists, as well as the wider Neuro Multi‑disciplinary team. The post offers a Band 6 training programme and access to the monthly neuro physio in‑service training programme. The physiotherapy service in BCUHB provides a whole career pathway to Band 8A as an advanced clinical practitioner. Service improvement and development is encouraged and all staff have access to regular supervision and training. Full time, part time and job share arrangements are considered.

Main Duties of the Job

• Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including management of patients in their care.
• Undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with diverse or complex presentations, using clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis.
• Formulate and deliver an individual physiotherapy treatment programme based on evidence‑based practice and treatment options, including manual physiotherapy techniques, patient education, exercise classes, electrotherapy techniques and other alternative options.
• Take delegated responsibility from the Team Leader or Senior Physiotherapist for managing patients with particular conditions and provide specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment plans for those conditions.
• Speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• Essential – Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy; HCPC registration.
• Desirable – Membership of an appropriate professional post‑graduate training body; membership of a relevant special/clinical interest group; completion of a clinical educators course.

Experience

• Essential – Significant post‑registration experience; evidence of core rotations.
• Desirable – Experience of contribution to CNG or working parties; experience in the relevant speciality; experience of working in an NHS environment as a physiotherapist and in multi‑agency MDT working.

Skills

• Essential – Excellent clinical reasoning skills in physiotherapy; ability to work autonomously within the clinical area; effective communication skills; ability to lead and participate in team working and training; self‑motivation and ability to motivate others; proven organisational skills including prioritisation and delegation.
• Desirable – Active involvement in research and contribution to evidence‑based practice; good teaching and supervisory skills; research skills; involvement in staff appraisal/PADR.

Personal Qualities

• Essential – Physically fit to comply with the health board’s Manual Handling Guidelines; able to work at intense levels of concentration during most of the working day; able to meet the 7‑day job planning and delivery requirements; able to work within a stressful and unpredictable environment; able to meet the travel requirements of the post.
• Desirable – Welsh speaker.

Knowledge

• Essential – Good knowledge of complex conditions; advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology underlying complex pathology; good working knowledge of all areas of clinical governance including quality, audit and risk management; understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession; good understanding of the need to collect statistics and experience of their use; broad understanding of BCUHB policies and procedures; disability awareness.
