Clinical Psychologist - Older Adult (Development Post)

The BCUHB Older Adult Clinical Psychology Service is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced band 8a Clinical Psychologist, or band 7 Clinical Psychologist, as part of a fully supported development post. The post is to be based and work in the county of Flintshire (Wepre House, Connah's Quay). This is a very exciting opportunity to join a well-established department, with excellent clinical and research links with the School of Psychology and the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) Department at the University of Wales, Bangor.

The BCUHB Older Adult Psychology department consists of a friendly and supportive team of colleagues spread out across North Wales but with excellent ongoing peer support and supervision, where the successful candidate will be well supported, mentored, and provided with further opportunities for training and advancement. The post holders will also benefit from cross-specialty BCUHB wide links across North Wales, with opportunities for research and clinical networking in both North Wales and All Wales wide. The countryside of North Wales offers an excellent quality of life with both the great outdoors on your doorstep or alternatively easy links to the more cosmopolitan hubs of Chester, Liverpool and Manchester.

Main duties of the job

This is a permanent 8a (or band 7 development post dependant on experience), and the post holder will be expected to provide specialist clinical input and support to both the Memory Assessment Service MDT and the Older People's Community Mental Health Team (OPMH CMHT). For successful applicants recruited to a band 7 developmental post, the post holder will be able to progress from band 7 to 8a once they demonstrate that they meet the competencies for band 8a level.

The role is varied, interesting and involves delivering tailored individual and group psychological therapies to an Older Adult clinical population, undertaking specialist neuropsychological assessment and formulation, and pre- and post-diagnostic support and intervention. As well as providing direct clinical input to clients, this will also involve working through others by training, supervision, and formulation work. The post holder will be expected to integrate well and form good working relationships with their multi-disciplinary (MDT) colleagues, providing specialist psychological knowledge, expertise and consultation to the team. It will also involve attendance at clinical MDT meetings, team referral meetings and service-wide business meetings. Enthusiasm and commitment are essential.

Qualifications

• Honours Degree in Psychology
• Eligibility for Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
• Post-graduate Doctoral qualification in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or for those trained overseas), as accredited by the British Psychological Society
• Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
• Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology

Experience

• Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist, normally including significant post-qualification experience within the designated speciality where the post is located (band 8a), or relevant transferable skills
• Demonstration of further specialist training / experience through having received extensive and demonstrable clinical supervision of working as a clinical psychologist or an alternative agreed by the Head of Clinical Psychology Services
• Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision
