The appointee will have the opportunity to progress clinically to the standard of competence needed for appointment to higher surgical training or other registrar level posts. They will have their own educational supervisor. Active participation in surgical audit and clinical research projects will be encouraged. The appointee will have the opportunity to develop teaching skills within the department and through the undergraduate teaching programme. Study leave will be supported, with ATLS courses available locally if required. Assistance with exam preparation (e.g., MRCS) and interview practice will be provided.

This post currently operates a 1:11 full-shift Rota with cover for annual and study leave.
The position provides valuable experience and development opportunities in emergency general surgery, as well as elective and emergency vascular surgery, although it is not currently recognized for training by the Postgraduate Dean. The department is committed to supporting the appointee by offering extensive opportunities to develop their portfolio, aiming for progression to registrar level. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and experienced surgical trainee with ambitions to advance.
