CAMHS Practitioner - Unscheduled Care

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the further growth and development of crisis care provision for the children and young people across North Wales. These newly developed posts, based within the area of Conwy & Denbighshire in our newly developed Central Hub, will provide caring clinicians with flexibility, autonomy and professional growth and development.

As part of our transformation and development of Child and Adolescent Mental Health services, we are strengthening our leadership, pathways and services to provide a rapid, robust and extended multi-agency crisis response that includes prompt assessment, liaison, consultation, training and, where appropriate, intensive time-limited interventions for children and young people up to the age of 18 who are experiencing an acute mental health and/or psycho-social crisis.

The post holder will undertake assessments in A&E, acute wards and other community settings to support rapid crisis response in the least restrictive ways, but also consistent with identified needs, to ensure Young People’s and others’ safety. The post holder will provide clinical formulation, identifying the young person’s and family’s needs, offer liaison, consultation and intervention to facilitate safe discharge and care planning across partner agencies. There is a requirement to work flexibly across North Wales as the service develops to a 24-hour provision.

Responsibilities

• Be part of a multi-disciplinary Regional crisis service, working with young people experiencing mental health crisis where hospital admission is a strong possibility but can be safely supported within the community.
• Provide urgent assessment and brief, evidence-based intervention to children and young people with mental health problems and significant mental health disorders.
• Support parents, carers and frontline professionals in understanding and supporting the young person by providing education and advice on how to manage the condition.
• Work flexibly across the Region (including out of hours), intensively, creatively and responsively to clients' needs using a team approach.
• Ensure good links with others within the CAMHS area and with other relevant agencies.

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking to recruit several experienced, registered practitioners. Applications from those who have not previously worked in CAMHS but have transferable skills relevant to the role are welcome. Experience in working with young people and families with complex difficulties and experience in completing mental health assessments and risk management is desirable. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
