Consultant Paediatrician in Acute and Community Paediatrics in Bangor

Applications are invited for a hybrid Consultant post with a 60:40 split between Acute and Community Paediatrics. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of Acute Consultant Paediatricians and Community Paediatricians across North West Wales. This new post has been created as part of a service restructure following a colleague’s move to flexible working arrangements and another colleague’s retirement. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our supportive team. The successful candidate will bring a specialist interest in allergy, along with a willingness to take on a lead role in palliative care within acute children’s services.

Main duties of the job

• Be responsible for the management, appraisal, and supervision of Doctors under their supervision.
• Maintain personal and professional development.
• The post holder will register with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health for the purpose of Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and to fulfil the requirements of that registration.
• Provide expert advice, when required, to the Executive Team, Board, General Practitioners, and other relevant stakeholders on the planning and delivery of clinical services at local, regional, and national levels.
• Co-operate in the present agreed framework of management arrangements in the Health Board.
• Actively engage in the Health Board’s clinical governance processes, including participation in clinical audits and research where appropriate.
• Collaborate with colleagues and the Health Board to pursue agreed objectives, and fully support the implementation of outcomes to promote best practice.
• Participate in consultant appraisal and job planning reviews.
• Ensure that all intellectual property rights of the Health Board are observed.

Qualifications And Training

• Essential criteria
• Full GMC Specialist Registration in Paediatrics or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview.
• Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application.
• MRCPCH or equivalent.
• Newborn Life Support provider course.
• Advanced/European Paediatric Life Support provider course.
• Valid Level 3 Safeguarding training.
• Valid BLS Training.
• Desirable criteria
• MSc, MD, PhD or equivalent higher degree.
• Evidence of Management Training.
• Valid APLS and NLS.

Management and Leadership

• Essential Criteria
• Ability to undertake the role of Palliative Care Lead within Acute Children’s Services.
• Experience of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience of leading clinical governance activities, including audit, quality improvement, and management of clinical risk.
• Proven leadership skills, with the ability to guide, support, and develop teams.
