Are you passionate about working with young people to bring purpose, structure and enjoyment to their day? We are looking for an Activity Coordinator to join the NWAS team and play a key role in enhancing the wellbeing and recovery of our service users. This role is central to creating a positive Ward environment by planning, delivering and encouraging participation in a wide range of meaningful activities that reduce boredom and promote engagement.

You will work primarily alongside service users, supporting them through creative, therapeutic and recreational activities, while also becoming an integral member of the wider Ward Team, contributing to holistic, person‑centred care.

Main duties of the job:

About Kestrel Ward:

Kestrel Ward is a 12 bedded General Adolescent Inpatient Unit, serving the North Wales and North Powys areas. We are committed to further developing our service to provide excellent and collaborative care with our service users, through participation in activity, recovery and gaining feedback of the service user experience.

Job responsibilities:

Person Specification:

  • Qualifications and/or Knowledge: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject area. Significant experience in a health care or education setting, or experience in a CAMHS setting. NVQ Level 4 or equivalent, or willingness to undertake within 18 months in post.
  • Experience: Experience of working with individuals with mental health needs in a health or education setting. Experience of working with young people between the ages of 12–18 with complex needs including mental health, learning disability and neurodevelopmental conditions.
  • Aptitude and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures. Co‑ordination and organisational skills. Basic risk assessment and risk management skills. Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively. Understanding of issues affecting people with mental illness. Basic awareness of issues affecting health and social care. Awareness of person‑centred care. Ability to manage own workload and determine priorities. Ability to problem solve and adapt to novel situations under pressure. Understanding of equality and social inclusion principles. Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance. Welsh language skills desirable level 1 to 5. Knowledge or experience of working with third sector organisations. Experience of working closely with and delegating tasks to others.
