Job Summary

To take responsibility for the overall performance (including Commercially) of Industrial and Commercial projects. The performance outcomes being principally: Excellent health and safety standards, programme achievement, high quality of standards and profit responsibility. To work collaboratively with the design team, Planning team, operatives, and other professionals to support the performance of each project.

Principal accountabilities

  • SAFETY
    • Ensure Health and Safety is at the forefront of you and your staff / Operative s mind when undertaking any task both on and off site.
    • Always ensure all the sites are adequately/ effectively barriered off and safe.
    • Ensure all Method Statements, Risk Assessments and CDM packs are always on site and all Teams have copies of them ensuring they comply and ensuring you make the teams aware of any changes.
    • To ensure Audits are completed by you and your Supervisors monthly in line with Company procedure.
    • Carry out safety inspections (at least 2 per month) implementing corrective actions where applicable and ensuring standards are being adhered to.
    • Ensure we complete 12 TBT per annum (1 per month) and report to the HSQE department in a timely manner.
    • Take a proactive stance ensuring Utility strikes are kept to an absolute minimum, investigating each incident with the HSQE department and trends to allow us to identify areas of improvement.
    • Ensure all incidents are investigated within 24 hours of the incident and a senior managers report is collated advising on areas of improvement.
    • Promotion and implementation of Hazard Spots within the Business.
    • Ensure Machines, Plant and equipment is always safe when not in use, implementing measures to rectify where necessary.
  • CUSTOMER
    • Manage weekly programme meetings ensuring we are always managing customer expectation keeping them informed at all times of changes to programme date, maximising programmes and maximising resources.
    • Manage the PM s to ensure we know of up-and-coming work on their developments so we can plan effectively and efficiently (Forward planning of work).
    • The planning and programming of works is managed daily in liaison with the relevant Project Manager to meet customer expectation.
    • Always treat our Clients as Customers ensuring an excellent customer experience is given.
  • PEOPLE
    • Enforce the agreed hours of work of workforce and record accurate data on timesheets.
    • Ensure teams, runners and all support vehicles are all out of the yard by 07.30hrs (where applicable).
    • Performance management and appraisals of employees including site staff.
    • Manage people in a fair and honest way manage the way you would like to be managed.
    • Offer Support to the design, planning and Commercial staff at all times.
  • INTEGRITY
    • Always show honesty and consistency with employees and clients.

    • Ensure we always construct a quality product (to specification) and give our customers value for money to ensure we get repeat business.
    • Ensure quality Aslaid records are undertaken in a timely manner.
    • Recruitment follow the Company guidelines to ensure we always recruit the correct personnel to provide an excellence service.
    • Ensure you (with the help of Operational staff), are keeping their End Life Forecasts (ELF) up to date at all times.
    • The forward planning of work (WLF) is accurately managed to ensure that adequate resources are secured and used efficiently to achieve completion of activities and to maximise profits.
    • Implement and ensure all Paperwork from sites are submitted in timely fashion and are of a good quality.
    • Training - work with Health and Safety ensuring all training needs are met.
    • Ensure POD s are collated from Site and handed into Accounts on a weekly basis.
    • Ensure the Project Managers are always adhering to company procedures.
    • Work with the Commercial department and PM on a regular basis to ensure all projects are profitable implementing measures to improve where necessary.
  • SUSTAINABLE
    • Ensure we are as efficient as possible minimising the number of visits to site and making site visits worthwhile.
    • Always recycle plastic pipe.
    • Look at the use of recycled materials (sand and stone), re-using materials where possible at all times.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications and Experience
    • 5-day SMSTS accreditation
    • Four-day first aid accreditation
    • Minimum 5 years experience in a site supervisory role with preferred experience as a Senior Project Manager/Contracts Manager
    • Full clean driving licence
    • NEBOSH General Certificate
    • HNC/HND (or equivalent) in Construction Management
  • Skills and knowledge
    • Good working knowledge of the construction industry
    • An understanding of the CDM regulations
    • A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, internet and email
    • A good understanding of safe working practices / basic H&S requirements
    • An understanding of all relevant trade disciplines
