Bethell is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Junior or Project Planner to join our growing Planning Team. This role will be primarily based at Manchester Airport Group (MAG), supporting ongoing and future civils and infrastructure projects. When MAG workload allows, you’ll also contribute to planning activities across the wider business.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their planning career, or an established Project Planner ready to deepen their expertise in a dynamic and high‑profile environment.
What you’ll be doing
- Develop, update and manage project programmes using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Support programme development at all stages — ECI, tender, delivery and completion.
- Build programmes from first principles with guidance from senior planners (depending on experience).
- Track progress, analyse performance and support the delivery team with programme reporting.
- Assist with EoT / NEC Clause 62 assessments and ensure contract compliant programme submissions.
- Collaborate closely with project teams, subcontractors, clients and MAG stakeholders.
- Contribute to planning inputs for tender bids and work-winning activities when required.
- Promote safe planning, appropriate mobilisation time, and efficient resource usage.
What we’re looking for
- We welcome applicants across two experience levels — Junior Planner and Project Planner — and will tailor responsibilities accordingly.
- 1–3+ years in construction/civil engineering.
- Awareness of the planning function and planning software.
- Ability to interpret drawings, apply logical thinking and follow structured processes.
- Eager to learn and progress under mentoring from senior planners.
- 3+ years’ planning experience.
- Strong working knowledge of P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
- Ability to build programmes from first principles.
- Experience with NEC contract requirements, reporting and change processes.
For both levels
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication and relationship building skills.
- Analytical, organised and proactive mindset.
- Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Civil Engineering qualifications (HND or similar) and experience in highways, infrastructure or water projects are desirable for both levels.
At Bethell, our values guide everything we do — Safety, Integrity, Customer, People, Sustainability. You’ll be part of a long term high profile infrastructure environment at Manchester Airport whilst also having the opportunity to work on other diverse civils and infrastructure schemes across the North West, benefitting from coaching and development from experienced planners with clear career development opportunities.
