Job Overview: Coordination of case study evidence, through liaison with operational management, ensuring a strong awareness and knowledge of the “Bethell story” underpinning a structured approach to planning, drafting, writing, and coordinating responses to bids and technical briefs set by clients and prospective clients. Develop ideas shared by the bid team into work-winning tender proposals that differentiate Bethell above our competitors.
Principal Accountabilities
- SAFETY
- Employ safe working practices at all times and maintain a positive safety image.
- Positively portray Bethell’s excellent health and safety record in all tender bids.
- Visually promote the safety culture of the organisation highlighting key performance metrics across the HSQE aspects of the business.
- CUSTOMER
- The ability to grasp a good understanding / technical knowledge with the assistance of the business to meet and deliver the Client’s requirements for each tender bid.
- Assess and differentiate the associated points structure within any tender quality assessment, targeting maximum potential marks based on the response assessment criteria.
- Demonstrate an approachable demeanour and always present a professional attitude towards the Client.
- Ensure that we can demonstrate that we not only meet our Client’s expectations, but also exceed them whilst engaging with a wider stakeholder demographic, supporting Social Value initiatives.
- Communicate with the client to question ambiguity and seek clarification to underpin accurate and achievable quality / technical commitment within tender submissions.
- PEOPLE
- Working closely with the wider Estimating team whilst developing relevant answer material and agile storyboarding that clearly answer a brief’s requirements and portray the Company appropriately, embedding the organisation’s values across all responses.
- Building internal and external relationships with individuals in order to create high quality bids that best represent the Company culture and manner of operation across our core discipline.
- Presenting information in a meaningful, structured, accurate and understandable way to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Working relentlessly to acquire relevant information from personnel within the business to support bid proposals, indexing case study material, holding an accurate library of evidence that will support tender submissions across a wide client spectrum.
- INTEGRITY
- Ensuring all written documentation relating to bids and tenders is of high quality and accuracy.
- Timely planning, management and completion of allocated selection questionnaires and tender submissions through the various stages of procurement processes.
- Maintain a professional approach positively reflecting the company image at all times.
- Strong conviction to work as necessary to meet deadlines whilst maintaining the highest standards of bid content and presentation.
- Undertake all other duties as deemed appropriate and assigned by your line manager.

- Research publicly available information on our clients’ policies and compile bid responses that mirror our Clients’ approach to Sustainability issues.
- Promote imaginative ways to demonstrate our approach to recycling and re-use of materials whenever suitable opportunities arise.
- Promote the Company as a champion of Environmental matters with underpinning knowledge of sustainable practices operated across the organisation.
- Promote and elaborate on the Company’s approach to Corporate Responsibilities and Social Value.
- Supporting innovative thinking with value added planning approach whilst documenting operational activities.
- EXCELLENCE
- Critical attention to detail, proof-reading and editing documents to eliminate errors, controlling the associated review process for tender adjudication.
- Propose imaginative and eye-catching proposals to promote the Bethell brand and differentiate from our competitors, graphic design proposals etc.
- Reviewing and evaluating each unsuccessful bid to share constructive feedback and lessons learned with colleagues transposing into appropriate action plan for continuous improvement.
- Secure prestige work with key Clients through successful bids won with score margins attributable to innovative bid writing.
Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent and confident communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to interrogate effectively to gain detail from operational leads.
- Excellent attention to detail with solid editing and proofing ability.
- Good knowledge of the construction industry.
- Researching expertise.
- High level of proficiency in all Microsoft Office - Word/Excel/Outlook/Teams/Visio.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Project would be an advantage.
- Ability to interpret information from Tender drawings, schedules, documents.
- Ability to persuade others using logic and reason.
- Strong analytical skill, being able to read between the lines.
- Excellent organisational skills.

Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor degree or Diploma in a subject with emphasis on written works in English language.
- Preferably 2 years’ experience of working as part of a team to develop bids for large contracts or the proven ability to demonstrate effective bid writing skills.
- Previous experience in the construction industry would be an advantage.
- Desirable experience of written technical submission within a contracting environment.
- Full clean driving licence.
