We are looking for a dependable and skilled Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our Estates team and help maintain our extensive grounds and facilities to the highest standard.

The Role

This is a varied, hands-on role combining grounds maintenance, general repairs and site support within a vibrant educational environment. No two days are the same, making this an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work and enjoys working outdoors as part of a collaborative team.

Working under the direction of the Head of Grounds, you will be responsible for maintaining the school’s sports pitches, lawns, landscaped areas and wider estate, while also supporting general maintenance projects across the campus.

Working hours

  • Monday to Friday
  • 8.30am to 5.00pm

Key responsibilities:

  • Mowing, strimming, hedge cutting and tree pruning
  • Maintaining sports facilities, including line marking and equipment installation
  • Fencing repairs and installations
  • Grounds improvement projects and landscaping works
  • Operating grounds maintenance machinery, including ride-on mowers and tractors
  • General maintenance and repair work, including painting, basic plumbing and timber repairs
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the estate
  • Supporting site improvement projects and responding to urgent maintenance issues where required

About you

We are looking for someone who is practical, proactive and committed to delivering high standards.

  • Full UK driving licence
  • At least five years’ experience within the gardening or grounds maintenance sector
  • Experience in timber construction, landscaping or building work
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong awareness of health and safety practices
  • Plumbing experience
  • Painting and decorating skills
  • D1 entitlement on a UK driving licence
  • PA1-PA6 Chemical Application Certificate
  • CS31/32 Chainsaw Licence
