Reporting to the Division Vice President, Philanthropy (DVP), the Executive Director, Philanthropy (ED) will oversee and manage a team of front-line philanthropy professionals, each with direct fundraising goals. The ED will build and lead this team to solicit gifts from individual donors to meet fundraising goals.
Working with the VP and colleagues, the ED will develop and execute strategic plans for the major gifts program, focusing on securing significant commitments and supporting a multi-year campaign. The role also involves growing volunteer and physician engagement and managing a portfolio of prospects/donors.
**Primary Responsibilities:**
- Participate in senior leadership meetings.
- Implement fundraising strategies with the DVP.
- Participate in planning a multi-year campaign.
- Manage and evaluate fundraising staff, setting goals and providing leadership.
- Assist in donor visits and strategy development.
- Create engagement experiences for donors and prospects.
- Coordinate prospect research and management activities.
- Engage with colleagues and volunteers to increase engagement and giving.
- Provide guidance and support to senior management, physicians, and volunteers involved in philanthropy.
- Manage a portfolio of 30-50 donors and prospects.
- Define fundraising projects and collaborate with prospect research.
- Document donor interactions and maintain records.
- Attend related meetings and events.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.
- 10-12 years in philanthropy with success in securing large gifts; healthcare experience is a plus.
- Proven leadership, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
- Experience across the full spectrum of individual giving and closing major gifts.
- Ability to interface effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Comfort with ambiguity and managing multiple priorities.
- Discretion with sensitive information.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
