Job Description: Paid Pharmacy Technician Training at BILH - Launch Your Career!

Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) offers a 4-5 month paid training program to become a certified Pharmacy Technician. Learn through online classes and hands-on experience at one of our hospital or retail sites.

Program Highlights:

  • Earn While You Learn: Earn a full-time wage while completing the Pharmacy Technician University program (approx. 4-5 months).
  • Become Certified: We prepare you for the MA Pharmacy Technician license and a position upon program completion and passing the exam.
  • Structured Training: 40 hours/week (32 hours on-site at a BILH facility, 8 hours remote online learning).
  • Real-World Experience: Combine weekly online lessons with practical experience alongside healthcare professionals.

Locations Include:

  • Hospitals: Anna Jaques Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston, Needham, Milton, Plymouth), Beverly Hospital, Joslin Diabetes Center, Lahey Hospital Medical Center, Mount Auburn Hospital, New England Baptist Hospital, Winchester Hospital.
  • Retail Pharmacies: BILH Shapiro (Boston), BILH Bowdoin (Dorchester), BILH Direct (Westwood).

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in English.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Commitment to the full-time training program and 1 year of subsequent full-time employment.

  • Decision Making: Ability to make decisions that are based on specific instructions, standard practices and established procedures which generally require little or no supervision.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures and by identifying opportunities for process improvements.
  • Independence of Action: Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided. Work is monitored by supervisor/manager.
  • Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
  • Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal: Birth to 6 months, Youth: 6 months to 16 years, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - over.

Social/Environmental Requirements: Work requires periods of close attention to work without interruption. Concentrated effort of up to 4 hours without break may be required. Work routine is fairly consistent, but employee needs to be able to use judgment to respond to events several times a week. Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions several times a week: Exposure to dust, gas, fumes, steam, chemicals. Protective equipment required (Respirator, earplugs, mask, gloves, eyewear etc). Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or airborne pathogens, potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or bloodborne pathogens.

Health Care Status: HCW 3: Regular provision of service in a patient care area. Examples: Unit coordinators, lead coordinator/supervisor, patient liaison, nutrition services, environmental services, registrars, information desks, security, etc. Health Care Worker Status may vary by department.

Sensory Requirements: Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Color vision/perception, Visual clarity.
