Job Description

Provides technical and operational support to all U/S staff (for all shifts) and to the U/S, CT, IR Manager. Must be willing to adjust working schedule each week to allow for in person interaction with each shift on a weekly basis as determined and agreed upon with the U/S, CT, IR Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provides overall technical supervision of U/S services
  • Assists in developing staffing patterns, schedules, workflows, protocols, and troubleshooting issues
  • Participates in purchasing decisions for U/S equipment and supplies
  • Performs all technical and mechanical aspects of U/S, including positioning and technical factors, taking into account patient’s age, condition and ability to communicate
  • Assesses and recognizes normal/abnormal anatomy/pathology, tailoring scope of exam as indicated
  • Reviews exams with Radiologist as necessary, contributing technical and professional knowledge
  • Displays knowledge of principles of U/S and effectively screens patients to eliminate risk
  • Responds appropriately to medical emergencies and displays ability to function effectively and appropriately in stressful situations
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with patients, patient’s families, staff, physicians and medical office personnel
  • Demonstrates knowledge of what constitutes appropriate clinical history for each U/S exam
  • Participate in ACR reaccreditation process
  • Assists in Quality Assurance protocols and Quality Improvement measures
  • Aids with all regulatory requirements for all equipment, including Trophon compliance
  • Assists CT, U/S, IR Manager to ensure that staff professional education requirements are met and maintained, including applicable licensure, certification, and/or accreditation standards

Education/Experience Required

  • 3-5 years U/S tech experience
  • Clinical rotations in accredited U/S Program. Must include abdomen, OB-GYN and small parts
  • Graduate of AMA approved Radiology Technology program and a U/S license with permission to work in the state of Massachusetts
  • Vascular experience a plus
  • Experience with Philips equipment preferred
  • Ability to work at a quick pace with minimal supervision
  • Ability to concentrate, prioritize in multitask setting
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership to staff and function as a supervisor

Registration/Certification

  • ARDMS registration in Abdomen and OB/GYN
  • DVT vascular experience preferred
  • Breast registration preferred
  • OB experience preferred

Physical/Environmental Requirements

This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.

Length of On-the-Job Orientation Period

  • Three to four weeks

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Oversees daily operations in collaboration with CT, U/S, IR Manager
  • Supervises flow through department in absence of CT, U/S, IR Manager
  • Interacts with other technologists and support personnel
  • Works with Department Director on operations and projects
