Job Description:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists in the preparation of irrigation, intravenous admixture solutions, and other, using aseptic technique.
- Fills unit dose, Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM), stock requisitions and maintain inventory levels in OR, Endo & OB.
- Delivers unit dose, ADM refills, intravenous solution and necessary pharmaceutical supplies to the nursing units.
- Fills medication labels, subject to final check by a pharmacist.
- Prepares pre-packaged medications in commonly used quantities.
- Assists with inventory control of supplies and medications. Receives and shelves supplies and medications. Performs cycle counts and monthly review of stock for expired medications.
- Cleans pharmacy equipment, utensils and work areas.

Education/Experience Required:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to read, write and understand English at the 12th Grade level, follow orders, and written and illustrated instruction.
- Ability to perform arithmetical computations (add, subtract, etc.).
- Must have passed Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration exam; all requirements of Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
- Must know basic IV admixture processes as well as sterile procedures.
- Must have good math, computer and communication skills.
- Must have clear understanding of medication names (brand and generic), common dosing and sig codes, and medical terminology.
- PTCB certification within 2 testing cycles of starting job.
Registration/Certification:
- Must be registered by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy as a Technician.
- Must maintain license from Board of Pharmacy.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
This job requires frequent bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping, walking and lifting over 10 lbs. There will be occasional need for climbing stairs, lifting in excess of 50 – 100 lbs and sitting. Constant use of hearing, sight and speech. Frequent use of smell and touch. Frequent keyboard and telephone use. Constant concentration and problem solving.
