The Health and Safety Advisor UK will report to the Head of Retail Health & Safety. You will be responsible for advising and supporting key stakeholders within the retail estate, ensuring we are compliant with regards to Health and Safety legislation and regulations across our retail estate of 1284 stores. You will be able to offer advice and support in all aspects of health and safety, promote a culture of health and safety awareness as well as improve and develop training, safety management systems and reporting.

You will understand the importance of engaging teams to drive success within the estate and you will need to demonstrate strong organisational and influencing skills to execute this.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and non-statutory safety responsibilities including the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and other relevant legislations as well as the Management of Health and Safety at Work and other relevant regulations
  • Contribute to developing strategies, policies and procedures to minimise workplace hazards
  • Investigate and respond to near miss, incident & accident reports (and identify potential root causes)
  • Safety Management system administration and development (writing and reviewing risk assessments, training and safety policies)
  • Conduct investigations in to incidents to establish root cause, and engage accordingly with relevant departments.
  • Reporting RIDDORs as appropriate.
  • Contribute to development of engaging training packages
  • Keeping up to date with health and safety legislation, regulations and guidance
  • Liaise with local authorities and responding to contact in proactive manner
  • Provide guidance and advice to management and colleagues on health and safety matters.
  • Promote Health and Safety throughout the organisation
  • Answer phone and email queries

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Proven experience as Health & Safety Advisor in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in applying health and safety legislation and regulations.
  • Motivated, driven and passionate about improving Health and Safety culture.
  • Good communicator with a positive pragmatic problem-solving approach.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Accountable, self-motivated with ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Experience in conducting training, coaching, and mentoring to develop health and safety knowledge and expertise.
  • Analytical with the ability to prepare impactful reports and concise policy documentation.
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Willingness to travel on a regular basis with flexibility as and when required.
