Overview of the role
As the Health & Safety Advisor, you will promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the organisation and ensure that employers are adhering to current health and safety legislation by implementing health and safety policies and procedures. Additionally, you will support the Health and Safety Manager in identifying areas for continuous improvement and implementing best practices across the business. The role involves multi-site travel between depots and our Retail stores as required.
Main Responsibilities
- Initial point of contact for health and safety issues
- Carry out risk assessments and consider how risks could be reduced
- Create task specific Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
- Manage the risk assessment register and ensure all risk assessments are reviewed in a timely manner
- Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented
- Ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation
- Record and investigate incidents and accidents and produce incident trend statistics for managers
- Review all incidents and ensure that all required investigation documents are collated within the ‘Golden hour’
- Engage with colleagues in the workplace with the use of H&S notice boards and safety briefings
- Create toolbox talks and train out to colleagues
- Arrange for training to ensure first aiders, fire wardens and reps meet the statutory requirements
- Lead monthly health and safety rep meetings
- Provide health and safety support and guidance to Area Operation Managers when required
The Ideal Candidate
You will have the ability to engage with colleagues and management to build a safety-first culture within the organisation by possessing excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. In addition, you will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or working towards (Desirable)
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent (Essential)
- A team player but able to work under own initiative and able to escalate matters out of own limitations
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
- Proficient IT skills including MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
- Competent in training delivery will be an advantage
- Full UK driving license is required
