Role Overview
This role is responsible for establishing and scaling a new third-party asset-management platform within an existing real-estate investment and development business with the support of the founders and existing team. The Director will act as a self-starting business builder, combining origination, client relationship management, and hands-on asset-management execution to create a profitable new subsidiary.
The mandate includes:
- Winning external mandates
- Building a team and operational infrastructure
Core Objectives (First 24–36 Months)
- Launch a fully operational asset management division
- Secure £100m–£500m+ of third-party assets under management
- Build a scalable platform (people, systems, processes)
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development & Origination (Critical)
- Source and win third-party asset-management mandates
- Leverage existing relationships with institutions, PE funds, UHNW investors
- Lead pitch processes, proposals, and fee structuring
- Build long-term client relationships and repeat business
- Design and implement the asset-management business plan
- Establish operating model, reporting standards, and governance
- Work with senior leadership to structure the new subsidiary
- Asset Management Execution
- Oversee asset-level business plans and performance
- Drive NOI growth, leasing strategy, and value-creation initiatives
- Lead capex, repositioning, and development interface with internal teams
- Execute hold/sell strategies and disposals
- Set pricing strategy for asset-management fees (base + performance)
- Build and manage P&L for the new division
- Oversee underwriting, valuations, and financial modelling
Candidate Profile
- 10+ years in real-estate asset management / investment
- Proven track record of winning and managing third-party mandates
- Experience within institutional advisory firms
- Demonstrated ability to operate entrepreneurially
Academic/ Professional Qualifications
- BSc / MSc in Economics, Finance, Real Estate, Surveying, Engineering
- MRICS qualification via Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
- CPA, ACA, CFA
- Origination mindset (not just asset-management execution)
- Commercial and entrepreneurial thinking
- Ability to operate with ambiguity and limited initial infrastructure
- Strong negotiation and client-facing skills
- Leadership and team-building capability
- Strategic thinking with hands-on delivery
