What is Best for Britain? We are the researchers, data scientists, strategists, and activists, fixing the problems Britain faces after Brexit. We conduct polling to help politicians lead debate, not follow it. We design policy for whoever is in government, today or tomorrow. And we give voters the tools to speak to, and persuade, those in power. We believe that when we change minds we change politics for the better.

The Role: Are you a policy expert who also enjoys the cut and thrust of campaigning? Do you thrive on seeing your work influence Government policy? Are you someone who enjoys working with senior cross party politicians and business leaders while developing your policy knowledge? At Best for Britain, we believe that when we change minds, we change politics for the better and we are looking for a Policy Senior Manager to join our team at this incredibly exciting and important time both for the UK and the world.

We want you to take a crucial role managing Best for Britain’s policy development, particularly with our UK Trade and Business Commission, and build support for our campaign as we work to strengthen UK-EU ties and fix the problems Britain faces after Brexit. As a member of our Policy and External Affairs unit, you will work closely with the Director to deliver Best for Britain’s key policy offering by supporting the UKTBC members with briefings, presentations and evidence sessions as well as helping to analyse our best in class constituency level polling on EU related matters.

This role will suit someone looking to build on their trade policy experience and will give you the opportunity to meet and work with household names from UK media and politics while making career-defining contacts. Recent members of the Best for Britain team have subsequently accepted senior roles with the BBC, Labour Party, Liberal Democrats, the Civil Service and the UK Government working with top Cabinet members.

Key tasks:

  • Designing and managing key policy development projects including as related to public opinion polling, the UK Trade and Business Commission and our work scrutinising Bills and Legislation
  • Working with the External Affairs Senior Manager to develop the content of Best for Britain’s presence at external events, party conferences and trade body events
  • Overseeing the content of meetings with a wide range of stakeholders, including Government, parliamentarians and external organisations
  • Working closely with the External Affairs Senior Manager to build Best for Britain’s network with aligned organisations
  • Managing outsourced research to support the production of reports
  • Presenting our work to internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the Comms and Campaigns team to communicate our policy work to ordinary voters and the media
  • Collaborating across the business on shared deliverables.

Requirements: We encourage applications from candidates with the following skills, qualities and experience - but if your background is outside the norm, don’t be put off, and tell us why you’d be a great fit.

Person Specification:

  • Essential:
  • Intellectual curiosity and strong knowledge of UK-EU relations
  • 3+ years experience in a related policy role
  • Experience of campaigning on policy issues
  • Excellent written and fluent oral communication skills
  • Highly numerate and excellent spreadsheet skills
  • Line management experience of at least one direct report
  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Affinity with Best for Britain’s political aims and values
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in a trade policy role
    • Experience of commissioning outsourced research or polling.
