Responsibilities
- We are looking for an Assistant Shift Manager to join our fast-paced, reactive transport team. You’ll play a key role in delivering the daily plan, overseeing loading activities, and managing attendance and absence records.
- You’ll also support the Shift Manager across all areas of transport operations and people management, helping ensure smooth and compliant performance throughout the shift.
- Oversee the dispatch board, record colleague arrivals, and ensure timely route departures
- Manage and report colleague absences effectively
- Coordinate with staffing agencies to fill operational gaps as needed
- Conduct colleague meetings, including welfare check-ins, investigations, and disciplinary hearings
- Support the monitoring and enforcement of legal transport compliance standards
- Collaborate with the warehouse team to resolve loading and operational issues
- Perform routine driver licence checks to ensure compliance
- Assign and track vehicles using the fleet monitoring system
- Prepare and process reports related to driver infringements
- Investigate personal and vehicle incidents
- Provide operational support across all areas of the transport function as required
Essential
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
- Office and administrative experience at management level
- High degree of confidentiality, accuracy & effective communication
- Ability to lead an effective team
- Ability to challenge influence and give feedback
- Technical capability around systems and process flows
- Intermediate level of all Microsoft packages
- Ability to build effective relationships within & across departments
- High level of problem solving and resilience
Desirable
- CPC trained qualification
- SAP experience
- Tachomaster and Microlise experience
