Level 3 Train Driver

Apprenticeships build capability that drive performance and at East Midlands Railway our Train Drivers keep the country moving both in the depot and on the mainline.

Our Train Driver Apprenticeship is a 12-month programme that blends theory and practical work in the classroom with practical skills development and work such as cab rides and signal box visits. As an apprentice driver, you will have access to world-class facilities at our Training Academy where our classroom learning is underpinned by state-of-the-art Virtual Reality (VR) that replicates real-life railway situations. We also have a cab simulator so you can learn about train driving in a variety of different circumstances and conditions within a safe environment.

Programme Details

Apprenticeship Standard: Level 3 Train Driver

Components

  1. Apprenticeship Induction and onboarding
  2. Enrichment day 1: History and Commercialisation of the Railway
  3. Safeguarding and Prevent on the Railway
  4. Part A Module 1 – 4
  5. End of module online tests
  6. End of part A written exam
  7. Progress file with verification of results of knowledge and theory competence
  8. Handed over to your new Line Manager
  9. Level 3 Additional Apprenticeship Learning
  10. Week 24 Enrichment Day 2: Low Adhesion & Safety Brief
  11. Week 40 Enrichment day 3: Incident Simulation Training & Intro to EPA
  12. Week 50 – 66 (depending on EPA) End Point Assessment Preparation
  13. Level 2 Math’s and English; Full support will be given to achieve these qualifications where an existing Level 2 Maths and English or equivalent is not held
  14. End Point Assessment (EPA) The final part of the apprenticeship leading to the Level 3 qualification
