Main duties of the job:

  • Assist registered staff with basic clinical tasks as delegated and trained.
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition promptly.
  • Prepare and maintain clinical areas, equipment and supplies.
  • Act as chaperone to support patients during diagnostic procedures and examinations.
  • Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Assist patients with personal care needs including hygiene, dressing, nutrition and elimination.
  • Support patient mobility and transfers using appropriate moving and handling techniques.
  • Support patients, relatives and carers by offering reassurance and information within role boundaries.

Theatre-Specific Duties:

  • Support the theatre team by preparing environments, transporting patients, checking equipment and stock, and maintaining cleanliness in line with infection prevention and control standards. All duties are performed under supervision.
  • Assist with preparation of clinic rooms, escort and support patients, manage patient flow, and assist clinicians as required to ensure clinics run efficiently and safely.
  • Act as chaperone as required.

Job responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the clinical area is suitable for the patients. Check the general environment including cleanliness and account for any special requirements identified for patients.
  • Meet & greet patients on arrival.
  • Ensure patients are kept up to date with their appointment, informing them of any possible delays.
  • Provide support to clinicians as required.
  • If necessary, be present in the consulting room whilst a procedure is taking place.
  • Communicate effectively with clinicians, patients and carers, recognising any need for alternative methods of communication.
  • Perform clinical tasks relevant to their role (ECGs, Bloods, Holter).
  • Ensure patients are adequately dressed and ready for transport home.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant required training associated with the job role.
  • To ensure patients receive the required standard of care and support at all times, to support their dignity and privacy; and to ensure that at all times the patients' wishes are followed.
  • Ensure the provision of a safe, welcoming, caring, and clean environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with the Health and Social Care Act Regulations (2010) and the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) by adhering to the Care Quality Commission and Home Office standards at all times.
  • To contribute to the collection, recording and storage of information.
  • The postholder is required to promote equality in service delivery and employment practices.

Qualifications:

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care.
  • Qualified in Phlebotomy.

  • Caring and compassionate approach to patient care.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work within defined limits.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
