BCS Connect is proud to be working on behalf of our client in Telford to recruit a Commercial Manager to lead the commercial performance of their specialist drainage and highways schemes. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in major infrastructure projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards.
About the Role
As Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for managing multiple drainage projects, supporting operational teams, and ensuring commercial compliance across all schemes. You will also mentor and develop junior commercial staff, embedding best practice throughout the team.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Leadership: Own the financial performance of multiple frameworks, ensuring profitability, value for money, and compliance.
- Contract Management: Administer NEC contracts (NEC4 ECC, PSC, and TSC), including early warnings, compensation events, and change control.
- Cost Control & Forecasting: Lead forecasting, risk management, and value engineering to maintain financial control.
- Procurement & Supply Chain: Source and negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to achieve best value and monitor performance.
- Project Delivery Support: Collaborate with operational teams to embed commercial awareness and ensure compliance with contract requirements.
- Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with National Highways and other key stakeholders.
- Reporting & Governance: Produce accurate monthly reports, CVRs, forecasts, and risk registers.
- Team Development: Mentor Quantity Surveyors and junior commercial staff to build capability and ensure best practice.
About You
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor within highways (strong civil engineering experience also considered)
- Sound knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts (ECC/TSC)
- Experience working with public infrastructure clients, preferably National Highways
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Strong analytical and financial acumen
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Chartered status or working towards MRICS / MCInstCES / MICE (desirable)
