BCS Connect are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Site Manager to join a major water infrastructure project near Distington, Cumbria.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Site Manager with a strong civil engineering, groundworks or water/wastewater background who is looking for a long-term permanent position.
- The Project
- The project involves the construction of major water infrastructure, including:
- 8m diameter wet well shaft, currently approximately.
- Construction of a large above-ground tank.
- Concrete and structural works.
- Groundworks, excavation and associated civil engineering activities.
- Management of subcontractors and site teams.
The successful Site Manager will initially be brought in to cover the existing Site Manager, who is required to take some time away from the project.
This is a permanent position, with further projects planned following completion of the current works.
The client has a strong pipeline of work across Cumbria and Lancashire, making this an excellent long-term opportunity for someone based locally.
The Role
As Site Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of the works, ensuring the project is completed safely, efficiently and to programme.
Your responsibilities will include
- Managing subcontractors, site operatives and site activities.
- Coordinating the construction programme and sequencing of works.
- Overseeing groundworks, concrete and civil engineering activities.
- Managing health and safety on site.
- Ensuring RAMS, permits and site documentation are maintained.
- Monitoring progress, quality and productivity.
- Liaising with the Project Manager, engineers, client and subcontractors.
- Identifying and resolving site issues.
- Ensuring works are delivered to the required specification and programme.
About You
The ideal candidate will have a proven background as a Site Manager within civil engineering, ideally with experience across water, wastewater, utilities or infrastructure projects.
Experience with wet wells, shafts, concrete structures, tanks, deep excavations, drainage and groundworks would be highly advantageous.
You will need to be confident running a busy site, managing subcontractors and taking responsibility for the safe and successful delivery of the works.
Essential Requirements
- Previous Site Management experience within civil engineering/construction.
- Strong groundworks/civil engineering background.
- Experience managing subcontractors and site teams.
- SMSTS
- CSCS
- First Aid
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Ability to read drawings and understand RAMS.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
Desirable Experience
- Water/wastewater experience.
- Experience working on utility or infrastructure schemes.
- Temporary Works experience/qualification.
- Experience managing concrete structures, shafts or wet wells.
- Long-Term Opportunity
This is not a short-term contract.
The initial requirement is to provide cover on the current project, but the successful candidate will remain with the business and move onto further projects as they become available.
With significant upcoming work throughout Cumbria and Lancashire, the client is particularly interested in Site Managers who are already based in the area or within a reasonable commuting distance.
