Private Chef – Sloane Square & South of France

A private household is looking for an experienced Private Chef to join them on a permanent, long-term basis.

Location: Sloane Square, London & South of France
Position: Live-out in London / Live-in in South of France (just for 2 -2.5 months during the summer)
Start: Ideally beginning of November for trials following by start date, although the family can wait for the right person
Salary: Good, depending on experience
Household: Usually 1–3 family members plus staff in London. In the South of France, typically 4–14 people, with up to approximately 30 people when entertaining.

The family is looking for a talented and flexible Private Chef who can prepare fresh, healthy and varied food, with a particular focus on Italian and French cuisine, although confidence with other cuisines is also important.

The Principal is very fitness-focused and follows a clean, healthy diet, so the Chef must be confident preparing nutritious, well-balanced meals using high-quality fresh ingredients.

The position will be live-out in London and live-in in the South of France during the summer months, approximately June to August.

The Principal spends approximately five months of the year in London, usually in periods of 1–3 weeks at a time. When the Principal is in residence, the Chef will need to be flexible and available to cook for him and his family, including his partner and child.

When the Principal is away from London, the Chef will mainly be cooking for the household staff. This means there will be opportunities to take more time off during quieter periods in London. In return, flexibility is essential when the Principal is in residence and during the approximately 2- 2.5 months spent in the South of France, when the Chef will be expected to cover the full period.

This is a sole Chef position in London. In the South of France, the Chef will also take the lead; however, when the family is entertaining larger numbers of guests, additional help will be arranged.

The property in the South of France has its own vegetable garden, and the Chef will be encouraged to make full use of the fresh seasonal produce available. A driving licence is essential, as the Chef will be responsible for shopping and sourcing additional ingredients while in France. In London, food and ingredients are generally delivered to the property.

Duties include:

  • Preparing fresh, healthy and nutritious meals
  • Creating menus suitable for the Principal’s clean and fitness-focused diet
  • Italian and French cooking, as well as a variety of other cuisines
  • Daily cooking for the family and household staff
  • Menu planning and adapting meals according to the household’s requirements
  • Shopping and sourcing high-quality ingredients when required
  • Making use of fresh, seasonal produce from the vegetable garden in France
  • Keeping the kitchen clean, organised and well maintained
  • Catering for guests and entertaining when required
  • Travelling with the family to the South of France during the summer, approximately June–August

Interviews/ start: Interviews will take place during October, with trials ideally beginning in November. However, the family is happy to wait for the right candidate to trial and start.

Requirements

The ideal candidate:

  • An experienced Private Chef with previous private household experience
  • Ideally strong in Italian and French cuisine
  • Excellent knowledge of healthy, clean and nutritious cooking
  • Confident preparing a wide variety of cuisines
  • Flexible and adaptable to the Principal’s schedule
  • Happy to travel and spend approximately 2- 2.5 months in the South of France each summer
  • Comfortable catering for both a small household and larger numbers when entertaining
  • Organised, discreet and professional
  • A team player who is comfortable working alongside other household staff
  • Full driving licence essential
  • Looking for a long-term, permanent position
