Bespak are looking for a HSE Process Safety Advisor. This is a permanent position for the Holmes Chapel site, CW4 8BE. The salary for this role is £60,000 - £75,500. Other benefits you will receive are 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, discretionary annual bonus, generous 10% pension contribution, onsite free parking, and medical / dental / health / life assurance. Working Pattern – Monday to Friday usual working times of 8:30am to 5:00pm with an 8:30 am to 3:45pm finish on a Friday.

The HSE Process Safety Advisor leads the site’s COMAH and DSEAR compliance programmes, ensuring the effective implementation of process safety management systems, regulatory compliance, and robust major hazard risk management. Providing programme leadership, governance, and technical expertise, the role supports capital projects — including Line 4/5 commissioning and validation — as well as operational readiness and ongoing site operations. Working closely with Engineering, Operations, HSE, and external regulators, the advisor ensures risks are proactively identified, controlled, and mitigated, while driving best-practice process safety standards and continuous improvement across the organisation.

As a HSE Process Safety Advisor your duties will include:

  • Lead the site COMAH and DSEAR compliance programmes, maintaining the Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP) and Safety Management Systems.
  • Act as the primary regulatory contact for COMAH and DSEAR, ensuring ongoing compliance and audit readiness.
  • Identify, assess, and control Major Accident Hazards (MAH/MATTE), embedding robust risk management across site operations.
  • Lead and govern Management of Change (MoC) processes for plant, equipment, and process modifications.
  • Provide process safety technical expertise to engineering, commissioning, and capital projects (including Line 4/5), supporting FAT/SAT and operational readiness.
  • Oversee action tracking, compliance verification, and performance monitoring of process safety KPIs.
  • Deliver process safety training and promote best practice and continuous improvement across the site.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, HSE, and external regulators to ensure effective programme delivery and risk escalation where required.

HSE Process Safety Advisor beneficial key skills and experience:

  • Essential
  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation relevant to COMAH and DSEAR environments and other standards (e.g. IEC61511) relating to process safety.
  • Experience with HAZOP, RCA, LOPA, SIL, PHA and Management of Change.
  • Experience working in regulated major hazard or pharmaceutical environments.
  • Experience managing compliance programmes, risk registers, and action management systems.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities.
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Science, or related discipline.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Membership of IOSH or equivalent professional body.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a pharmaceutical or major hazard environment.

  • Previous process engineering or process safety engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of Human Factors application in process safety.
  • Experience supporting commissioning and operational readiness activities.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and competent handling of MS-Office applications.
