Overview

In this role you will drive the Harvill imprint’s commercial fiction direction, with a focus on crime and thriller. You will shape acquisitions, editorial strategy and publishing plans to deliver market-leading books. You will lead titles from deal to publication while collaborating across design, marketing and publicity teams. You will nurture author relationships and explore new routes to reach readers in a fast-changing market. You will shape the imprint’s growth with a strategic, data-informed approach and a passion for distinctive storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and acquire exceptional crime and thriller fiction in a fast-moving market
  • Publish market-leading bestsellers by shaping pitch, positioning, packaging and publishing strategy
  • Lead titles from acquisition to publication, coordinating with multiple teams
  • Structurally and line edit manuscripts, working closely with authors
  • Build long-term author relationships and develop strategies to grow readership and careers
  • Collaborate with designers, marketers and publicists to create standout covers and campaigns
  • Identify talent in new and emerging spaces, including self-publishing, and explore IP-led publishing
  • Use data and insights to discover new authors and new routes to market

Key requirements

  • Experience commissioning and publishing commercial fiction, especially crime and thriller
  • Solid understanding of publishing processes, including editing and overseeing titles to publication
  • Confident with authors and agents and able to build industry relationships strategically
  • Strong commercial judgement and creative flair, with excellent organisation and communication
  • Experience collaborating with designers, marketers and publicists to create campaigns
  • Energy for change and openness to new acquisition approaches, with contribution to imprint development
  • Experience showing how data has informed publishing decisions across markets and formats
