Berrycove Limited is seeking Lead Farm Managers with direct experience working in advanced commercial hydroponic greenhouse environments, to join its expanding farming operations in Tobago, offering significant advancement opportunities. This is a unique opportunity for CARICOM nationals to return home and be part of the regional initiative toward building food security through advanced AgTech.
As a Lead Farm Manager, you would be charged with overseeing all operations within several of the assigned crop divisions: Greens, Strawberries, or Caneberries depending on your area of expertise. This position will report directly to the Head of Horticulture and indirectly to Management on all aspects of the operation including staff management, crop production, crop scheduling, budgeting, and production flow.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:- Management of a staff of up to 10 including two Assistant Farm Managers.
- Responsible for the creation and operation of all irrigation and nutrient programs for a variety of crops across two greenhouse units.
- Plan and implement harvesting and planting schedules and sensitize staff on what to expect.
- Manage the production yields and ensure that all production activities are aligned with production goals.
- Operational oversight of all electrical, chilling, and air circulation controls within the designated production spaces.
- Monitor the health and safety and ensure high worker satisfaction of dedicated operational staff under your direct management.
- Support the packaging, logistics, and sales and marketing teams.
- Daily, weekly, and monthly reporting.
- At least 3-4 years experience working in a senior role in a commercial greenhouse and hydroponic facility as a Farm Operations Manager or Master Grower.
- Varied experience in commercial greenhouse operations, hydroponic system operations, and horticultural knowledge.
- Cultivation knowledge of commercial-scale greenhouse operations including; seeding, propagation, transplanting, maintenance, and harvesting of various edible greens and soft berry fruits.
- BSc or similar Degree in Plant Sciences, Horticulture, Agricultural Technology, Agribusiness Management.
- Certification in Advanced Hydroponics from a recognised institution is an asset.
- Solid people management skills – team builder – team leader.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Team-oriented with a positive outlook.
- Strong Interpersonal skills. Able to communicate clearly with all staff levels and other stakeholders.
- Accountability – Takes initiative and ownership of responsibilities.
- Time Management & Organization Skills - Able to prioritize and delegate tasks.
- Flexible work hours and timeliness. Able to work on demand when required.
- Physical demands - Able to manage physical tasks such as loading and unloading, moving gardening supplies, medium to heavyweight tools and equipment, etc.
- Proficient in all MS Office applications with knowledge of plant recording databases.
