To carry out a wide range of grounds maintenance duties across parks, open spaces, cemeteries, housing estates, highways, and public areas.
Ensuring all sites are kept safe, tidy, and visually appealing for residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Strimming & Brush cutting - trimming grass edges, banks, verges, pathways, obstacles, and hard‑to‑reach areas.
- Mowing - operating pedestrian, ride‑on, and tractor‑mounted mowers to maintain lawns, parks, and open spaces.
- Hedge Cutting - trimming hedges, shrubs, and bushes using powered and manual tools.
- Weed Control - removing weeds manually or using approved herbicides (PA1/PA6 desirable).
- Litter Picking - clearing litter, debris, fly‑tipping, and waste from public areas.
- Leaf Clearance - seasonal removal of leaves using blowers, rakes, and vacuums.
- Planting & Bedding - planting flowers, shrubs, trees, and maintaining seasonal displays.
- Cemetery Work - maintaining burial plots, grass areas, and assisting with grave preparation support tasks.
- Play Area Checks - basic safety inspections and reporting defects.
- General Maintenance - repairing fences, clearing pathways, maintaining signage, and minor grounds repairs.
- Equipment Care - cleaning, refuelling, and basic maintenance of tools and machinery.
- Health & Safety Compliance - following PPE requirements, safe working practices, and council policies.
Skills & Experience
- Experience using strimmers, hedge cutters, mowers, blowers, and hand tools.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Good physical fitness and stamina.
- Basic understanding of health & safety, risk assessments, and safe tool use.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills for interacting with the public when required.
- Full UK driving licence often preferred.
