Berry Recruitment is looking for an experienced Development Scientist to join a great team in the Crediton area.

Overall

This role is responsible for managing and delivering product development projects for new and existing products, from brief to first production. The role works cross‑functionally with all parts of the business to deliver projects and acts as a technical resource, issuing reports, statements, and assisting with issue resolution.

Day to Day Delivery

  • Work in an organised and autonomous manner within tight deadlines to ensure key deliverables are met.
  • Maintain momentum and progress on multiple pieces of work at any one time.
  • Understand, manage, and escape risk where relevant.
  • Work towards clear and contracted deliverables and outputs, role‑modeling high levels of focus toward these results while maintaining flexibility when goals change.

Risk Management

  • Effectively analyse, communicate, and advise the business on risk.
  • Make clear recommendations that consider risk but allow for decisive business action and progress.

Communication

  • Excel in communications to a wide variety of stakeholders within and outside R&D, ensuring verbal and written communication provides the required clarity and detail.
  • Use abilities and experience to ensure the right message has been received.
  • Coach others in delivering a message with the right amount of detail and ensuring the key points are clearly conveyed.

Continuous Development and Knowledge

  • Stay up to date with key nutritional and licensed medicine landscape themes.
  • Highlight and discuss development needs and opportunities with line manager.
  • Perform all activities in accordance with company Health, Safety, and Quality policies and procedures.
  • Acknowledge ethical and legal compliance responsibilities and raise concerns when faced with ethical or compliance issues.

What do you need to have?

  • Degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Pharmacy, or equivalent development experience.
  • Product Development experience delivering product developments from concept to marketplace, meeting the requirements of the supply chain.
  • Process development experience introducing new or improved processes, including equipment trials and scale‑up challenges.
  • Project management process knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of food regulatory environments.
  • Technical skills and continuous learning mindset, including application of statistical analysis to datasets.
