On-call rota for weekend standby works

The role of Grave Digging Operative:

  • Safe preparation, digging, and management of grave sites through manual and machine excavation
  • Ensuring all graves are excavated safely using appropriate shoring equipment, as per instructed date and time
  • Correctly reinstating graves following burials and topping up as required
  • Standby and call-out on rota outside normal working hours (weekends and bank holidays)
  • Liaising with clients, stakeholders, and cemetery representatives as part of the burial process
  • Planning and managing workloads around burial requirements
  • Operating plant and machinery including mini-excavators, ride-on mowers, compact tractors, and sweepers
  • Driving company vehicles and towing trailers

The ideal Grave Digging Operative:

  • Experience using mini excavators within confined environments — preferable
  • Experience towing trailers up to 3.5T
  • Experience and knowledge of general Streetcare duties and associated plant and machinery
  • Full driving licence (over 3.5T)
  • Accredited certification in the use of mini excavators up to 3T — preferable
