As a Marine Superintendent at BSM, you will be responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, and effective vessel operations. Acting as a key link between ship and shore, you will provide operational and navigational support, manage audits and inspections, and drive continuous improvement to uphold international standards and enhance customer satisfaction. Monitors and controls the safe and cost-efficient technical operation of all assigned vessels using the available resources, within the defined parameters of cost, commercial viability, and operational excellence in line with Owners' expectations. Ensure environmental compliance policies are upheld.

Key Accountabilities

  • Monitor updates and propose improvements in safety, security, and voyage efficiency; implement corrective actions from audits and incidents.
  • Provide operational and commercial guidance to Masters, including voyage orders, port limitations, navigation risks, and security threats.
  • Manage relationships with owners and charterers; address operational inquiries and complaints when required.
  • Monitor navigational and cargo operations to ensure compliance with international regulations and company standards.
  • Assist with identifying discrepancies in operational standards and advise on navigational and cargo equipment performance.
  • Ensure vessels maintain statutory certifications and compliance with Class, Flag State, and Port State requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate operational and security risks.
  • Act as Company Security Officer and support Masters during vetting, audits, and inspections; prepare responses and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare and submit reports and statistics on vessel performance in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Handle cargo claims and liaise with P&I/Insurance on commercial disputes when required.
  • Conduct appraisals and training for sea staff during ship visits; identify training needs and arrange briefings.

Requirements

Education and Qualifications: M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, or equivalent; Master Mariner or Chief Officer qualification.

Work Experience: Minimum 3 years sailing experience as Master/Senior Officer, or at least 6 years as Marine Superintendent in a ship management or owning company. Sailing/operation experience on VLGC and Ethane/Ethylene vessels.

Job-Specific Skills: Knowledge of quality, environmental, and safety standards and related legislation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in customer management and understanding of regional maritime market conditions. Good people management skills.
