Monitors and controls the safe and cost-efficient technical operation of all assigned vessels using the available resources, within the defined parameters of cost, commercial viability, and operational excellence in line with Owners' expectations. Ensure environmental compliance policies are upheld.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support Ship Management Centers (SMC’s) strategic goals.
  • Assists in promoting and supporting BSM’s strategic goals.
  • Ship technical support: Understands the contractual agreements with customers to deliver ship management services for each assigned vessel safely and cost efficiently.
  • Keeps close contact with clients, maintaining good working relationships with client representatives involved in the operations of the company's vessels.
  • Provides technical and operational support to assigned vessels.
  • Safety of Operations: Monitors the effective operation of the equipment and machinery of the assigned vessels, identifying potential discrepancies from operational standards and proposing and/or implementing solutions that enhance efficiency, performance, and safety.
  • Participates in the development of the maintenance and repairs plan for the assigned vessels and monitors its accurate execution.
  • Arranges and executes Drydock activities at regular intervals.
  • Develops, maintains, monitors, and reports budgets for all assigned vessels.
  • Monitors all vessels trading certificates to ensure compliance with existing maritime legislation, safety regulations, and operational standard requirements of all regulatory bodies.
  • Execution of technical inspections / internal audits: Manages all vessel visits, audits, and inspections effectively from planning to implementation and follow-up to support and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Responsible for communication, promotion, and implementation of the company's health, safety, environment, and quality policy on board the vessels related to technical matters.
  • In liaison with Loss Prevention Safety Quality (LPSQ) and Fleet Personnel Department (FPD), assists and supports sea staff with alignment of technical requirements.
  • Assists with the Company initiatives regarding the human element.
  • Purchasing activities: Ensures ship requisitions are handled timely and as per QDMS procedures.
  • Management of resources: Coaches, engages, motivates, and mentors employees to develop their strengths and build their capabilities as per their defined roles and personal goals.
  • Identifies training needs and provides on-board training to ship staff during ship visits.
  • Active involvement in the continual improvement process of the Company Management System to maintain compliance with customer requirements, expectations, as well as international/national regulations.

Requirements

  • Education and Qualifications: B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture or equivalent, or Chief Engineer’s qualification.
  • Work Experience: 3 years of sailing experience as Senior Officer, or 3 years of shore experience as a technical superintendent with a ship management/owning company.
  • Job-Specific Skills: Strong knowledge of vessels’ technical requirements and voyage regulations, excellent project management skills, very good negotiation skills, very good people management skills, teamwork and cooperation, very good organisational skills, ability to liaise with English-speaking stakeholders, PC literacy.
