The Housing Assessment Officer role: We have an exciting opportunity for an Housing Assessment Officer to join our team on a fixed term contract for 12 months, working 30 hours per week, based at Gateway Plaza, Barnsley. As part of our service, you will carry out assessments of customers applying to join the Housing Register, providing advice and guidance to applicants whilst gathering information and evidence around an applicant\’s circumstances. Key duties and responsibilities of our Housing Assessment Officer: To have operational responsibility for the assessment and special assessment process for applicants to the Housing Register To investigate and establish an applicant\’s circumstances to enable an accurate first line priority decision to be made in line with the published allocation policy and code of guidance. Where necessary liaise with other colleagues and agencies to verify and / or clarify information provided in a housing application and establish its relevance to a priority decision and to ensure that any offer of accommodation is suitable for the applicant\’s needs. To clearly communicate eligibility and priority decisions to applicants and other professionals where relevant including the rationale for the decision. To conduct necessary checks to, and to take follow up action where necessary to ensure eligibility to join the Housing Register is established prior to an application being made live and detect and prevent fraud. What we\’re looking for in our Housing Assessment Officer: Level 4 / HNC qualification or relevant experience in a similar decision making role.
